MAYDAYS for Eating Disorders – Answer the Call campaign

11 May 2017

The National Mental Health Commission supports the MAYDAYs for Eating Disorders campaign.

The national month-long campaign to raise awareness and advocate for improved treatment and support services for eating disorders aims to increase community understanding of the risk factors and impact of eating disorders.

The media has a powerful role in increasing community understanding of the risk factors and impact of eating disorders. However, the illnesses can be difficult to accurately and sensitively portray. Certain types of reporting can potentially lead to harmful impacts on those living with or at risk of an eating disorder.

MAYDAYs for Eating Disorders encourages the media who may be covering the campaign, or focusing stories on issues related to eating disorders this month, to refer to its media guide for reporting and portrayal of eating disorders.
