National Standards in mental health services

The National Mental Health Commission is working with the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) to improve the uptake of national mental health standards.

The ACSQHC has conducted a scoping study on the implementation of national standards in mental health services. This study will provide a better understanding of the enablers, barriers and challenges to the implementation of the current National Standards in Mental Health Services, in particular, from the perspective of people with a mental health difficulty and their families and supporters.

It also aims to identify gaps in the standards concerning safety and quality in mental health service delivery.

The report is now available on the ACSQHC website.

"Even the most disadvantaged Australians should be able to lead a 'contributing life,' whatever that means for them and this simple goal will be our touchstone and yardstick."
