In 2014, the Commission’s 2014 meetings focused on the Review of existing mental health services and programmes.
In 2012 and 2013 – our first two years – we met in every Australian state and territory including communities in rural and remote areas. From these meetings we gathered a wealth of information and knowledge from community meetings and visits to local services, which we used in the Review. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health, social and emotional wellbeing and suicide prevention were the focus of our meetings held in Alice Springs, NT and Cairns, QLD.
Commissioners particularly value the direct contact with people and families about their experiences, concerns and suggestions for improving mental health and preventing suicide.
